ABOUT
Reeta Loi is an award-winning Storyteller and Forbes 100 Founder.
As a writer, she is known for her ground-breaking work as Contributing Editor at GAY TIMES and is writing a book. Her Substack newsletter, entitled ‘SOUND’ sheds light on stories that are censored and her own journey to voice herself as a Dalit lesbian in an intensely patriarchal culture.
After training in Storytelling at RADA, she wrote and toured her show fusing music, comedy and poetry including performances at Roundhouse and Barbican. Her music has been released alongside Sia, Cinematic Orchestra, Meshell Ndegeocello and Mark Ronson.
Reeta’s VICE documentary which exposed and shut down a gay marriage scam in India, has amassed over 2 million views, she can also be seen on Channel 4 and has been the face of campaigns for H&M, Body Shop, Schwarzkopf and Boots Beauty.
Reeta has spoken at Somerset House, The Oxford Union, Bloomsbury Festival, TEDxLondon, BBC, Meta, WPP, Oxfam, Virgin O2, Deloitte, Labour Party, Levi’s, H&M, Burberry and more.
After leading film production for Sony in London and LA before joining Pulse Films as Head of Business/Exec Producer, Reeta founded her own agency.
Reeta’s talks and live shows are powerful and inspirational, playfully inviting the audience to reflect on themselves and society. As a Buddhist, Reeta provides a contemporary perspective on ancient teachings. Raised in an arranged marriage culture, she fought hard for the freedom of the women and girls in her family, before leading a global movement for LGBT+ people and fighting for successful legislative change in India. Reeta’s powerful voice and inspirational story speak for many that are silenced.
After several years of activism, Reeta founded Gaysians in 2017 to bring together LGBT+ organisations and fight for the rights and safety of the community. Gaysians is a leading global creative platform, producing events and campaigns for change. While Gaysians.org provides community resources for LGBTQ+ South Asians, including mental health, housing, faith, sexual health, trans and youth support. Reeta’s work is regarded as pioneering in the global movement for the rights of LGBT+ people and she has been Forbes 100 listed, as well as recognised by The Guardian’s Pride Power List for eight consecutive years and nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award by the British LGBT+ Awards, amongst other accolades.
