Reeta Loi is a Storyteller and award-winning LGBTQ+ rights activist. Her experience of walking an authentic and purpose-driven path, has given birth to a voice that is transformational and uplifts and unites people of many backgrounds.
Reeta’s talks and live shows are playful and educational, inviting the audience to reflect on themselves and society. As a Buddhist, Reeta provides a contemporary, feminist and queer lens on ancient teachings for individual and collective liberation.
Raised in an arranged marriage culture, Reeta fought hard for her own freedom and for the women and girls in her family. Her powerful voice and inspirational story speak for many that are silenced.
Reeta has spoken at The Oxford Union, Bloomsbury Festival, TEDxLondon and organisations including Oxfam, Meta, WPP, Virgin O2, Levi’s, Dr Martens and Burberry. Reeta has been the face of global campaigns for H&M, Body Shop, Schwarzkopf and Boots Beauty.
As a writer she is well known for her ground-breaking work as Contributing Editor at GAY TIMES and as a DIVA columnist. She is currently writing her highly anticipated debut novel.
Reeta has pioneered the movement for LGBTQ+ South Asians in the UK and internationally for the last 12 years. She has been instrumental in the fight for legislative rights for LGBTQ+ people in India, which was successfully achieved in 2018. She is the ‘Forbes 100 Woman Founder’ & CEO of the leading global network, Gaysians.
Reeta’s VICE documentary has amassed over 2 million views and exposed and shut down an International gay marriage scam based in India. She can also be seen on Channel 4’s ‘Where have all the lesbians gone?’.
She recently trained at RADA before a six-month UK tour of her one-person show ‘The Remedy’, headlining at The Barbican, fusing comedy, poetry, storytelling and music. Reeta’s music has been released alongside Sia, Cinematic Orchestra, Meshell Ndegeocello and Mark Ronson.
